Nahawand, an ancient city in western Iran, is one of the country´s leading rug provenances and is known for producing high-quality Persian rugs with an excellent reputation. Nahawand rugs usually use a highly lustrous wool, which gives the rugs´ patterns and designs a strong personality. These robust carpets have a straightforward design language that is partly inspired by nomadic rugs. A central medallion is often the defining element and is mostly decorated with leaf, flower and branch motifs. It is framed by floral patterns, with vases being a popular motif. The combination of red and beige tones on a blue background is particularly typical.
