Tabriz rugs are knotted from cork wool. Cork wool is particularly high-quality wool from the first shearing of the lambs and is only taken from the neck area, where the sheared wool is particularly soft and at the same time robust - very greasy . Cork wool hardly wears out and thus gives the Tabriz extreme longevity. Tabriz rugs originate from the front part of Persia (today´s eastern Azerbaijan) and typically feature a large central medallion and classical ornaments such as arabesques or various garden motifs.
