"Rugs knotted in the region around the city of Hamadan are called Hamadan rugs. However, the Persian rugs made in the surrounding villages and towns can differ greatly from each other, be it in terms of pattern, quality or knotting density. There is no such thing as a ""typical Hamadan"" and that is by design. Hamadan rugs are particularly characterised by the rather coarser, hand-spun highland wool, which makes the rugs robust and strong. One could say: Hamadans are good ""everyday rugs"" because of their durability."
